Monsters - Category A
The Category system that is commonly used throughout Nahas and the wider Awenasa area was devised by the shrewd Quarry-Hunters of the Custodes. These specialist roles were often used by the Company Captains to scout and secure employment for their company's service.
The aim of the system was to price-tag monsters based on their known level of danger. Every monster the Custodes have brought down was assessed and assigned a category and that information was then dispatched through the Regiments to make their monster hunting services price-consistent.
Category A Monsters are rare and their fearsome abilities range from needing dedicated veteran hunters to requiring a small army to deal with. Due to the rarity of this classification, the threat each type of beast represents can vary greatly within the categorisation.
These creatures should be avoided unless you are prepared to face them. Expect to suffer casualties and be wary every step of the way.

Notes for Monstering!
-
Monsters are considered alts and are not expected to last over a longer period.
-
When applying for a Monster, your first must be a Category-B and you may apply for Category-A if creationists permit it. (Monster numbers are limited)
-
Your Monster will last until it has been in 10 encounters, win or lose. It will die on its next loss afterwards. In which case your main character will get some rewards from the time spent monstering.
-
Treat your Monster like a DMNPC and act in accordance with aiming to enrich the world for players.
-
You must open a Storyteller ticket so your progress and encounters can be tracked for reward & balance purposes!

Quetzl

Introduction
A winged serpent of a kind unseen in Northern Nahas, the quetzl is a rare beast to stumble upon. When it has been, few can say they have escaped its maw unscathed.
The quetzl is more commonly known by its title. It has been described through storytellers and performers as The Monarchs of the Jungle, often shortened to just Monarchs.

Appearance
Like the jungles it inhabits, quetzls are often found in shades of green and brown while crowned in yellow and sometimes gilded to truly show its majesty. Its body is long and winding with tough scales that double as armour.
Giving the creature an ability to glide over longer distances, leathery wings bless the creature with more control over its own movements while in the air. Such manoeuvrability has greatly given the quetzl to hound trespassers.

Behaviour
Quetzls are frequently stand-offish to any who approach them. If they do not offer a tribute of food, usually raw meat, then the monster is often inclined to viciously attack the trespasser. Likewise, any who would dare close in are prone to the same treatment; if reverence and subservience isn’t observed when in its presence, then it will strike.
Quetzls have been observed having a symbiotic relationship with Liraxi. Liraxi have been known to protect quetzlets and their mothers, and in return the quetzl protects the territory of the Liraxi from predators that would threaten them. This has included the expansion of the Elves and the explorers sent from humanity.

Habitat
Quetzls make their home in the ancient ruins of precursors and within the rocky formations of the jungle. Although rare it is to find the habitat of one of these mighty beasts, the signs of its presence are ominously indicated by a lack of wildlife willing to go near its den. They avoid the harsh colds of the north, weakened into fatigue where the temperature drops too much.
The creature is rarely seen outside of its home in the thick of trees and swamp. However, it has been seen taking up residence close to water sources despite their other environment preferences; the monster itself known for being an exceptional swimmer. The beast avoids sands where it lacks water, and they’re not known to linger in the highlands or snow.

Monster Hunter Notes
Few of these beasts have been encountered and few are sought out to be slain by professionals. Those that have fought them tell tales of their endurance and resilience in the face of hunters. The best method to take the creature down is to be well prepared to fight it, with good armour and weapons and an ambush if you can outsmart it.
