Paragons & Renegades

Dwarven Paragons are ancestors of their kind who have entered into the tales of myth and legend spread by various storytellers and tale spinners who visit the public houses (pubs) and taverns across the great kingdoms. There are many paragons but few manage to make such a mark to become widely known. Most are Hold Paragons or more specifically Family Paragons that are more unique to certain locations or bloodlines.

The same is true for Renegades, few make it to be known throughout Dwarf kind and much more exist as they related to specific settlements or family members who were greatly disliked during their life time.
"Praise Olenna, I think I'm in love."
- Olenna is often used in phrasing of love and charm

Paragons

Paragon Jurik, The Great and Wandering

Paragon Jurisk, the First Paragon, is known to most of the Dwarves because of the bedtime stories of leading the Dwarves home and his other adventures out in the world. He is credited with the discovery of the best mountains and highlands for Dwarven holds and for teaching his kin how to create shelter and fire.

He is often shown to be galavanting around in the highlands, sometimes with Dwarves following him or boulders rolling around him.

Those that seek his favour do so for great fortune on their expiditons and explorations.

Paragon Bartan, The Jolly and Stern

Every Dwarf knows of Barin, the tale of an abnormally tall Dwarven King with a stern resting expression, who endeared himself greatly to his subjects through his charm, musical skill and ability to enchant masses through tales.
Barin's depictions can often, as a stern face turning jolly, be found in living rooms, public houses and anywhere that is expected to host groups and entertainment. Along with his wife Mesha.

He is often prayed to for success in musical pursuits.

Paragon Mesha, The Firm and Quick Witted

Mesha is known for being serious, though also for her quick-witted humour when the time was appropriate. She is said to imbue all mothers with her willpower and determination throughout the course of their lives and to look favourable upon anyone who rules justly, even down to the households.

She is often depicted as a serious-faced crowned dwarven woman in various households of the Dwarves, often by her husband Barin.

She is often prayed to for the strength in managing a household, a city or even a kingdom.

Paragon Zurdahn, The Silent and Furious

Zurdahn became largely known due to his inability to speak and his great strength. Combined this made him unique and a novelty as he wrestled his way through competition after competition, defeating anyone that stood against him. Even toppling kings in the ring. So audacious and strong was he, that tales washed over the Kingdoms and his fame outran him.

He is depicted as a greatly bearded, furious-looking Dwarven man with a godly physique. Sometimes he has a top on, other times he does not.

His favour is mostly sought by manual labourers for raw strength, but also for any Dwarf in a competition for fame or prestige - Which ends up being many.

Paragon Olenna, The Beauty and Heartstealer

Paragon Olenna is known throughout the Dwarven realm for her impossible ability to charm the socks off anyone she wants to. No one was safe from her charm, no matter their talents or discretion, all were in danger if she applied her talents. Instead of using her gift for personal gain, however, she instead used it to settle feuds where she went. Those who met her then were cursed by the meeting to forever long for her again.

Her depiction has never been constant and there are as many as there are preferences of what Dwarves would consider attractive.

She is sought out for favour in finding a true love and spouse, but also in negotiations of different kinds where diplomacy and charm are a necessity.

Paragon Bugor, The Fat and Funny

Bugor is said to have been the funniest dwarf to ever live and there will never be one to match his quality again. He is known to have travelled around various holds, enchanting the locals with his profound comedy and jolly attitude. - He even has the highest kill count of any Paragon, as his jokes could be so deadly his kin would forget to breathe.

He is depicted as a fat and laughing heavy Dwarf, typically older in age and if there are Dwarves around him then they are dying of laughter.

Comedians find strength through worshipping him.

Paragon Tan, The Artist and Hammer

Paragon Tan is credited with the Dwarven fascination with fine crafts and pouring one's soul into one's work. Dwarves know her as being a woman of many skills, able to make works of beauty from any material. Her limits knew no bounds and craftsmen across Dwarf kind seek dearly to emulate just one craft she is credited with.

She is mostly depicted in her work garment, with a steadfast expression. Typically with various tools in her hands or on her outfit.

She is prayed to for inspiration and dedication from all Dwarven crafters, from a seamstress to a blacksmith and beyond.
"Fik has taken him!"
- A phrase used when describing a dwarf with murderous intent

Renegades

Renegade Boegin, The Grey

Boegin was one of the first Dwarven Queens, and she is accepted as the first trust Renegade. Her tale is one of unchecked ambition and the destruction he wrought to see her vision realised. She is mostly used as a warning to Dwarven monarchs to keep themselves in check.

She is typically depicted as a mean-spirited queen with a sour expression, sometimes even manic as she collects wealth and power at the expense of others.

Few really look to her for anything other than wisdom on what not to do. Though those few that look to her earnestly seek the rewards of their ambitions fulfilled.

Renegade Fik, The Crimson

Fik the murderer. His story is somewhat simple, a Dwarf who allowed their emotions to run wild and lost control of himself and by manner of murderous rage he unleashed it upon his neighbours and kin. He is used as a warning for other Dwarves to temper their anger, lest they unleash it against their loved ones.

He is depicted as a blood-covered, scowling Dwarven man wearing ragged red clothing. He often plays a central plot point in various stories as the spectre of rage fighting against the hero or encouraging them to do great harm.

Few truly worship this beast.

Renegade Skoteg, The Black

Formerly a Paragon, and credited with the foundation of the Custodes. He was known as the protector of the Dwarves. Following the exiles of the Custodes he also fell out of favour and became disliked or even hated. Many Dwarves now believe him to be a traitor and power-hungry. The Custodes view him as their founder and protector.

He was often depicted in great golden armour, though this has been replaced with black owning to his betrayal. The Black mark of betrayal has resulted in the Custodes adopting the colour.

The Custodes are the only group known to revere him as he was originally revered.
